Fly fishing has been around for more than a thousand years. It's probably one of the hardest methods of fishing to master, yet it continues to grow in popularity. I recently started fly fishing and so I thought I'd share the three fly fishing tips that helped me the most baitcasting reel reviews.
Constantly Practice Your Casting
They say that practice makes perfect, and that couldn't be more true when it comes to fly fishing. Practicing your casting will improve your proficiency, and this can make all the difference between success and giving up in frustration. If you aren't near a body of water, you can practice against a wall of your house or in your back yard. You can use electrical tape to make casting targets on the wall. Practice casting as near to the targets as you can for at least thirty minutes each day.
Pick Your Fishing Rod Carefully
This is probably one of the most important fly fishing tips I can give you. One of the most important things to consider when choosing a fishing rod is comfort. You'll want to pick a rod that is relative to your height. If you are under six feet tall, don't pick a rod that is more than seven feet in length. You'll also want to maintain a proper grip on your rod. You must maintain control of your rod but try not too hold it too tightly. This will allow you to control the vibration of your fly fishing rod while casting. Some rods also have grips made of different material. Cork and rubber are two of the most common. Test each one out to see what feels most comfortable.
Keep Your Fly Line Clean
This tip is essential to the performance of your rod. Dirt from algae that is found in the water can cling to your line. Over time, this can lead to your line being weakened and stripped down. When this happens your line won't float properly and it won't glide through the rod guides correctly when you cast. It could also break while you are trying to retrieve a fish. You can buy the proper cleaning pads from most sporting goods stores that carry fishing equipment. Clean your line after each fishing trip for best results.
